Intro
This FAQ is intended for the fans of KotOR that played and finished the game, and are now wondering what side-quests, and other goodies they may have missed. In short, how to get more out of the game!

Note: I am assuming you are more or less aware of KotOR walkthroughs (e.g. IGN's KotOR Walkthrough) and want to be informed of things that go beyond "just winning the game".

        General Gameplay & Tips

When is Stealth really of use?
          • To get past several of the large monsters, to avoid being attacked.
          • If you are a Scoundrel, with Stealth and Sneak Attack skills, you will be able to sneak up on them from behind and dish out quite powerful blows with your weapons.
          • You can sneak ahead and plant mines, then lure the enemy to follow you into them.

What is the Scoundrels Luck Feat for?

When playing a Scoundrel (Character Class), Scoundrel's Luck gives your character +2 to Defense, Improved Scoundrel's Luck yields +4, and Master Scoundrel's Luck adds a whopping +6 to Defense.

What exactly are the "Security Tunnlers" and "Security Spikes" for?

Short: They are useless in the PC version of KotOR. You should be able to use them to increase your Security skill temporarily, but you cannot.

Tip: Sell "Security Tunnlers" and "Security Spikes" on Yavin Station for a nice bunch of Credits.

When you manipulate a computer console you either use Computer Spikes (hacking) or Repair Parts, the latter you will also be able to use on Droids directly.

Security Spikes: According to the inventory infos you should be able to use them to open locked things (doors, lockers, boxes, etc.)... And according to the J-Key console feedback something is very broken. To open a crate a 20 + Security points = 24 was cast, since I had a total Security of 4. The 20 is used every time, this is *not* a roll of a dice (i.e. d20), and it does *not* depend on spikes either. The lock required a 28 in total, so I upped my Security skill (cheat "setsecurity 8") to a total of 8 and the lock opened.

This seems to mean that not only the Security Tunnlers (those Mission will make for you) but also the Security Spikes are completely useless and broken on the PC.

Note: This seems to work on the XBox version of KotOR though.

Are there Dark Side only quests?

Well it depends on how you want to understand that question: There are quests that will get you DS points, no matter what you do, so the quest could be called DS only. But if you are wondering if there are quests specifically for a player on the DS, then the answer is no. All quests are available to LS & DS players.

*Pros/Cons Lightsaber, Double-Bladed Lightsaber, Short Lightsaber, 2 Lightsabers?

Background: Using a weapon in your offhand (that includes using a Double-Bladed Lightsaber and Dual-Wielding) will incur a penalty on your "To Hit" value. Be sure to read What is a character's "To Hit" value? Q&A. That is, it is less precise than using a single weapon in your main hand. However, the benefit, your character is capable of dealing more damage in a single turn.

A Double-Bladed Lightsaber does 2-20 Damage per hit, and each turn your character can make two attacks (2-20 + 2-20 per turn).

Star Forge, Æon's PC dual wielding Lightsabers
When wielding two Lightsabers, it is wise to have a Short Lightsaber in your offhand because short lightsabers reduce the offhand penalty (even though they deal less damage, it is worth it). Dual wielding also gives your character two attacks per turn, but deals less damage than a double-bladed lightsaber (2-16 + 2-12 per turn). However, it has a significantly wider Critical Threat Range, meaning your character has increased chances of making a Critical Hit.

Critical Threat Range of a weapon: When your character makes an attack, a 20-sided dice (d20) is thrown. If a weapon's Critical Threat Range is 19-20 (for example, a common Lightsaber), your character will make a successful critical hit if the dice lands on a 19 or 20 (thus, a 10% chance each turn of making a Critical Strike). A Double-Bladed Lightsaber has a critical threat range of only 20-20, meaning that it has less of a chance of making a critical hit (5% chance per attack).

More on Critical Hits: To cause a Critical Hit, you first must cause a critical "threat". The score you need is noted in the weapon description; 19-20 for a Lightsaber, 20 for a Double-Bladed Lightsaber. To gain a threat, your attack roll must be in the threat range; this is the dice roll before modifiers.

Once you have rolled a threat, the game will roll again to see if the threat succeeds; it rolls to hit again, using the normal modifiers. If a hit is scored, the damage from the original hit is multiplied by the critical multiplier (usually x2). If a hit is not scored, then the original hit is only a normal hit, causing the normal amount of damage.

One crystal, and the Critical Strike feats, can improve the threat range (e.g. Nextor) of your attacks. There is also a crystal that adds extra damage (e.g. Opila) when you cause a critical hit.

          More on Lightsabers:

One Lightsaber: One attack per round 2-16 base damage, critical threat is 19-20, no special stuff, Dueling Feats can add up to 3 to your attack.

Double-Bladed Lightsaber: Two attacks per round, with hefty base penalties to attack for dual wielding. 2-20 base damage per attack, critical threat is 20. Dual Wielding Feats can reduce attack penalty to -2 on each attack. Counts as balanced, so the first attack (and any bonus ones due to flurry, speed powers etc) gain +2 attack.

Two Lightsabers: Two attacks per round with hefty base penalties to attack for dual wielding. 2-16 base damage per attack, critical threat is 19-20. Dual Wielding Feats can reduce attack penalty to -2 on each attack.

Lightsaber in main hand, Short Lightsaber in off hand: Two attacks per round with hefty base penalties to attack for dual wielding. 2-16 base damage per attack with main hand, 2-12 base damage with the off hand attack, critical threat is 19-20. Dual Wielding Feats can reduce attack penalty to -2 on each attack. Short Lightsaber counts as balanced, so the first attack (and any bonus ones due to flurry, speed powers etc) gain +2 attack.

If you take the Dual-Wielding Feats, any of the dual wielding options yield far more damage, on average, because of the extra attack. (-2 attack accuracy is minimal later in the game). If you do not use the Feats, dual wielding with Lightsabers not a good idea!

Double-Bladed Lightsaber yields higher base damage, but fewer critical hits, and fewer spaces for crystals than the other dual wield options, but makes best use of a given crystal.

Two normal Lightsaber yields more damage when you hit than using a Short Lightsaber in the off-hand, but with a -2 penalty on all attacks, unlike the Short Lightsaber option or the Double-Bladed option.

A Short Lightsaber in the off hand has the lowest base damage for the off hand attack, but attacks with the main hand suffer no penalty, unlike with 2 normal sabers, and it offers more slots for crystals and a greater chance of critical hits than using a Double-Bladed Saber.

Low down: A Double-Bladed Lightsaber not only deals more damage than a normal Lightsaber, but also gives your character an Extra Attack that round. At higher levels, Double-Bladed Lightsabers would be generally more preferable to normal Lightsabers. However, the Dueling Feats make up for the disadvantage of using Single-Handed weapons. And yes, Double-Bladed Lightsabers should almost always deal out more damage than Single-Bladed Lightsabers. (kingoftheworldx)

How do I use Cheats? Open the game console?

In your KotOR games folder there is a configuration file called "swkotor.ini". You will need to edit in a text editor to activate the cheat console. In that file under the "[Game Options]" line add a line with "EnableCheats=1" (without quotes), save the changed file (I hope you backupped it prior to editing!). Run KotOR, then open the in-console by hitting the key under ESC (US keyboard). On a German keyboard this only seems to work by hitting Shift+' (accent key, left of Backspace) + any other key. This opens a mini-console, top left of the screen. For a complete list of cheats, Google the internet.

How to get clean (HUD-free) screenshots in KotOR?

In your KotOR games folder there is a configuration file called "swkotor.ini". You will need to edit in a text editor. In that file under the "[Game Options]" line add two more lines: "EnableScreenShot=1" and "GUIsInScreenShot=0" (without quotes), save the changed file (I hope you backupped it prior to editing!). Run KotOR, during the game hit the Print-key (to the right of the F12-key). This will create a clean, HUD-free screenshot of your on-screen action in tga format.

Note: This will *not* work for any cut-scenes or bink movies shown in the game! Use Fraps to screengrab the in-game cut-scenes. Also read the Is there a way to screengrab KotOR's .bik movies? Fraps does not work! Q&A on this.

Tip: This will also work when you pause combat action with Space.

          What effect does Awareness have?

Awareness is primarily useful to locate mines, as well as determines how far your "team" can see, detecting enemies, mines, boxes, doors, etc. Everything else scattered on the ground is either there, or it is not. Awareness has *nothing* to do with it!

Experience: Awareness is Party-Effective! As long as you have one NPC in your party with decent enough Awareness, your character can be able to spot the mines. Did a test using Mission once with a PC that had 0 Awareness, and still my PC was able to detect mines. (kingoftheworldx)

Experience: I typically give my PC up to 10-12 by the end of the game, to prevent myself from walking over unseen mines. I use those extra skill points you have left over when all your important stats are maxed. (Ace Savoron)

Note: A lot of of hardcore RPG people boost Awareness on the PC, since it is unlikely that a Jedi would have anything but a high Awareness in real life.

Comment: Since Awareness is Party-Effective, you could give your PC a 0 Awareness. Using the skill points for other skills. Trouble is that you will need to up the Awareness of most of your other team members to ensure at least one team member has a high Awareness. In that line of thinking: Mission as demolitions expert is great, but in several situation you cannot (or do not want to) take her along, thus no demolition skills in the remaining team. (Æon)

Is Force Persuade worth bothering with?

There are a few cases where you will indeed get more out of a NPC by using Force Persuade, than would be possible via Persuade. At the very least you get more dialog choices. But in many cases Force Persuade may actually be rejected by the NPC, where a simple Persuade will indeed get you more.

Note: Force Persuade will lead to DS points in many cases. It will also make your team members comment on your misuse of the Force (interesting!). Basically if you use Force Persuade for your selfish gains (extort Credits), to make others do evil deeds for you, this will gain you DS points. If you prevent evil you will often get LS points.

Tip: If you are an LS character, you may want to avoid Force Persuade altogether. If you are a DS character and have lots of extra skill points, go for it.

Experience: There is an additional level, Dominate Mind, and while its uses are few, Force Persuade options on the other hand are quite common. This will enable you to get many Credits (or save them, by *not* paying) and information you would not have obtained otherwise. Force Persuade is directly tied to your Persuade skill! If you pay attention to this skill (i.e. 10-12+), Force Persuade will rarely fail. So yes, you can beat the game without it, but I advise getting at least level 1 as DS. (Ace Savoron)

Tip Before you try a Force Persuade, Quicksave the game, if the Force Persuade should fail, Quickload and "roll" again, usually it will then work.

A few cases where only Force Persuade will yield results:

          • When playing DS, on the Unknown World Beach, you can force the Zaalbar to kill Mission.
          • IIRC, in a few cases Force Persuade will help circumvent low Persuade skills. (Æon)
          • On Manaan, in the Swoop Racer "Bar", you can Force Persuade the official to *not* charge you 100 Credits for the first race. Only works once though.
          • In a few cases a LS player can use "Force Persuade" to actually gain LS points!
E.g. On certain Czerka Corp. representatives on Kashyyyk, or some of the Sith Students at the Sith Academy on Korriban.
          • Suvam Tan will give the PC his Pazaak Deck for free (Instead for 100 Credits).
          • Talking to Suvam Tan early on in the game, you can get a Dialogue option to Force Persuade him to give you an unspecified Discount; this Discount is 5% on everything he sells! See the What is Yavin Station actually good for? Q&A on this.

Note: You gain LS points, when you *prevent* NPCs from acting evil via Force Persuade.

Experience: To the dismay and utter confusion, the game also contains various dialog in which neither the regular persuade option nor the Force Persuade option will work, in spite of the fact that they are offered in the dialog: the most notorious example is the Whimpering Locker conversation on Manaan. (GreenTwilek)

Note: In certain conversations, Bastila or Jolee will perform Force Persuade for you on a third NPC, if your character has failed the regular persuasion checks.

          • If your PC fails to persuade Holdan to let Dia live, but Bastila in your party, then Bastila will mind-trick Holdan to recall the bounty on Dia, thus solving the quest for you.
          • If your PC fails to persuade the Czerka Corp. Chief representative on Kashyyyk to tell you more about the internal conflicts between the Wookiees, then Bastila will mind-trick him into spilling it all out.
          • Bastila can mind-trick Motta the Hutt on Tatooine to give you more money if you fail certain persuade checks.
          • There are some more occasions along this line.
It is mostly about mind-tricking others into giving you more information. As your own character will get better Persuade checks as the game progresses, it is of course less likely that you fail your persuade checks.

Does KotOR have more than one Ending?

Hint: Yes, 2 main endings, one variation, one secret ending.

          • If you play the game LS, and convert Bastila to the LS at the Star Forge you will get the "default" ending.
          • If you play the game LS, but do not convert Bastila. Neither the Republic nor the Sith will have a clear battle advantage (no Battle Meditation, since Bastila is dead). IIRC, there was a slightly different set of movie scenes in this ending.
          • If you play the game DS or LS, and then turn on your team and join Bastila (Unknown World, Temple roof confrontation), you will get some new cut-scenes in the Star Forge, and the game ending will be DS.
          • DS or LS, just before you confront Malak in the Chamber with all those Jedi Coffins, open the game console and enter the cheat "dancedancemalak", then confront Malak, and to see a slightly whimsical ending.

Spoiler: Malak stars talking, then instead of battling you, he turns into a Twi'lek Dancer, your PC and "Malak" dance a bit. The game ends as if you had killed Malak, from then on.

          Bugs and Workarounds?

Even after patching the PC version of KotOR to v1.3 (as of 2/4/2005), there are still quite a few situations and bugs in the game that may prohibit the proper completion of a quest or get a quest started. This should not be surprising, with a game as complex as KotOR, therefore heed to the following tips to avoid frustration:

          Tips:
          • Save your game often!
          • Take full advantage of Quicksave / Quickload, e.g. save before you enter a new area.
          • Save game "Milestones" into named *new* files, not just Quicksaves, e.g. before you visit a new planet. The more Milestones you have the better you will later on be able to skip to a certain part of the game. I normally have about 120 such savepoints (Æon).

          Bugs:
          • KotOR is known to sometimes corrupt your Quicksave savepoint! So be sure you have a fallback Milestone savepoint!
          • At times the engine may get confused: Showing the wrong map, no longer letting you talk to NPCs, the Ebon Hawk travel console is broken, etc. As soon as you think this has happened, stop playing and try again from your last *working* Milestone savepoint. Continuing a corrupted game will get you nowhere!
          • A few Quests will not be placed on your list of "Completed Quests", e.g. on Korriban you can complete far more Quests for Prestige, than you will ever be able to tell Master Uthar about. Alas these quests will stay open, until you reach the Unknown World (where most quests are reset/removed).
          • Triggering the encounter with Xor (Juhani's Side-Quest) before the Leviathan will prevent you from getting the extra items from Mika Dorin's Premium Shop on Korriban. To avoid it, do not have Juhani in your party when passing any of the usual encounter trigger spots.
          • Mission's Brother missing...
          • Computer on Kashyyyk malfunction...
          • No Bacca's blade...
          • Sand people attacking, but you are equipped with Sandpeople garb...

          • ...
          • There are quite a few more bugs in the game, but with the Save Tips above you should be able to avoid them.

Can you upgrade your Swoop Racer?

Even though several NPCs hint at and talk about upgrading their Swoop Racers, it is in fact *not* possibly for the PC to upgrade his Swoop Racer (was probably cut from the final game).

*When do I become a Jedi?

Hint: Patience my jung wannabe Padawan ;)

Spoiler: You will need to play the Endar Spire and the complete Taris Quest-set. When you then reach Dantooine, the Jedi Council there will see your potential and initiate your Jedi training.

Can the Ebon Hawk be destroyed?

Sure just run it right through the next Super Nova or return to Normal Space inside a planet ;)...

Seriously, when you hop from planet to planet in the Ebon Hawk, you will encounter a Mini-Game where you will need to "Man the Turrets" and fend off Sith Fighters. Should you do a really bad job defending the Ebon Hawk, the shields will go and the Ebon Hawk blows up. End of Game.

*Where to find Crystals for my Lightsaber?

Hint: Caves are usually a good place too look.

There are several places where you will find new Cystals for your Lightsaber:

Mantle of the Force (l), Heart of the Guardian (r)
Note: Normally you will never be able to buy Crystals from Merchants (only exception is Suvam Tan, How do I get the Crystals: Mantle of the Force, Heart of the Guardian? Q&A). You can sell them your Crystals though, and buy them back again (the latter is a waste of Credits).

Tip: At times it may not be easy to determine what Crystal is the most powerful, a sell price list (from Yavin Station, *without* special discounts!) can help:

          • 149 Credits: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green
          • 312 Credits: Violet
          • 637 Credits: Bondar, Rubat, Jenruax
          • 962 Credits: Luxum, Phond
          • 1287 Credits: Damind
          • 1612 Credits: Firkrann
          • 1625 Credits: Krayt Dragon Pearl
          • 1937 Credits: Sigil, Opali, Eralam
          • 2587 Credits: Nextor, Sapith
          • 3237 Credits: Upari
          • 3250 Credits: Solari
          • 13000 Credits: Heart of the Guardian (buy: 20000)
          • 16250 Credits: Mantle of the Force (buy: 25000)

Tip: The powerful Solari Crystal can normally only be used by a LS player. But with the help of the Heart of the Guardian *or* Mantle of the Force even a DS player can use the Solari Crystal!

Note: Heart of the Guardian and Mantle of the Force do *not* replace the normal Crystals in the Lightsaber, they replace the "Color Crystal"!

Where to find a Gammorean Battleaxe?

The item list in the Instruction booklet lists Gammorean Battleaxe as a 2 Handed Weapon. Gammorean Battleaxe: 1-12 Damage, Physical, Threat Range of 20, Wield Type 2 Handed.

Alas there is not way to actually find the weapon *in* the game, other than by cheating: "giveitem g_w_waraxe001". This is not recommended though, since the weapon seems to be very buggy for the PC.

Pazaak - Rewards other than Credits?

When playing Pazaak, you are playing for Credits, obviously. So if you win you will get what you wager. But if you are persistent in winning Pazaak games against certain NPC players, there are interesting other Rewards to reap:

          • Fodo Medoo on Kaskyyyk: After 10-15 wins gives you his Sidedeck.
          • Jolan Aphett on Manaan: After 10-15 wins gives you his Sidedeck.
          • Kudos on Tatooine: After 10-15 wins he should give you a Vibration Cell.
          • Suvam Tan on Yavin Station: After 10 wins, he will give you a huge discount (20% off on all items), plus pay much more for the items you want to sell.
          • Sol'aa on Dantooine: After 10 wins, you get some really good cards for your Sidedeck.

For more details see the KotOR's Pazaak NPCs? Q&A below.

          *KotOR's Pazaak NPCs?

Here you will find a detailed list of Pazaak playing NPCs:

          • Taris, Lower City Cantina: Gelrood is an 'infinite' player. He never quits, he never runs out of money. Maximum bet: 40 Credits.
          • Taris, Upper City Cantina: Niklos quits and insults you after you have beaten him several times (up to ten games). Maximum bet: 40 credits.
Tip: Male chars get the occasion to flirt heavily with Christya if they beat Niklos before: Christya is a 'Pazaak Groupie'.
          • Dantooine: Sol'aa is an orange Twi'lek in the northern wing of the Enclave. Maximum bet: 120 credits. If you win ten times, you get some really good cards for your Sidedeck from him.
          • Tatooine, Hunters' Lodge: Kudos gives you a Vibration Cell, an upgrade item for swords, if you beat him 10 times. Bets vary; sometimes it's 50 credits, sometimes 75, sometimes several hundred. He's cute.
Note: Any rumors about getting a Lightsaber crystal from him are false!
Note: The XBox version may have a glitch where you do not get the Vibration Cell, but you can play him indefinitely for 600 Credits per Hand.
          • Tatooine, Cantina: Furko Nellis plays for 850 credits in total if you win all games against him. Then, you can only play with him for fun.
          • Manaan, Visitors' area: Jolan Aphett gives you cards for your Sidedeck if you beat him ten times. Maximum bet 200 credits.
          • Manaan, Mercenaries' Cantina: There is an elderly gentleman Gonto Yas. He is one of the 'infinite' players. If you play him after the Leviathan incident, he tends to insult Jedi (!) between the rounds. 200 credits per round.
          • Korriban, Dreshdae Cantina: Toll Apkar a Rodian, a 'Infinite' player, maximum bet 100 credits.
          • Kashyyyk, Czerka landing bay: Fodo Medo raises the maximum bet from 50 to 500 and leaves you his Sidedeck after you beat him 10 times.
          • And, of course, Suvam Tan at Yavin space station with a maximum bet of 750 credits, for 10 rounds.
          • On board of the Ebon Hawk: Mission Vao plays without betting any money. Just for fun.

Comment: Up to now, there are four Rodians on the list, as well as four Humans, two Twi'leks, and one Black-Vulkar humanoid. As for card "sellers", there are Uriah on Taris and Sol'aa and Crattis Yurkal on Dantooine: That is three Twi'leks, against one Rodian on Manaan and Igear (Human) on Taris again. I therefore dismiss the idea that Rodians were particularly involved in gambling. This is, statistically, not the case. (GreenTwilek)

When going DS just is not enough?

Note: This is *not* for our younger readers! ;)

There a few situations when playing a DS character that a bit more evil than your common run badness, for those who want to totally live their DS, a list:

          • On Tatooine force the Czerka worker (at the Cantina) to never speak to you again... ever... by using Force Choke on him!
          • There are reports that you can herd the Gizka on the Beach near the Elder Settlement into the Energy Barriers. (Ace Savoron)
          • Turn on Solo Mode, walk into the Energy Barriers near the Elder Settlement and send your team to their deaths one by one... (Ace Savoron)
          • Manaan, Hrakert Station, Envirosuit Storage, Whimpering Locker, there is no way to get the panicked man out of the locker, other than via a Lightsaber stab.

Notation: On Attributes, Modifiers and Bonuses?

AFAICT there has been a certain mixup in Terms used at the Forum, making it a bit more difficult to understand what is going. Therefore I will explicitly explain the Notation used in this FAQ:

Note: In the below the "Intelligence" Attribute is used as an example, this applies to *all* Attributes though.

Notation: At times Intelligence values (these are *not* INT) are confused with the Intelligence Modifiers denoted with INT (these are what count!). In this FAQ 3 letter abbreviations (all caps, e.g. INT) are *always* denote the *Modifiers*!

          Attribute & corresponding Modifier

          • Strength - STR
          • Dexterity - DEX
          • Constitution - CON
          • Wisdom - WIS
          • Intelligence - INT
          • Charisma - CHA

Attributes: When dealing with Attributes, one has to consider their corresponding Modifiers first. These are the Green numbers that appear beside each Attribute value (see in-game Character Sheet, P-key). As mentioned above, the Modifiers are the numbers that actually matter. The Modifier for each Attribute is calculated thus:

          Modifier = (Attribute value – 10)/2

E.g. your character has a Strength of 19, he will have a Modifier of STR +4. And, an Attribute value of 9 will give you a -1 Modifier.

Modifier Bonus: The term "Bonus" will be appended to Modifiers to make it clear that the Modifier is not to be seen as an absolute value, but as an *addition* to an existing Modifier value, e.g.

          • INT +2, denotes an absolute +2 Modifier value (this corresponds to Intelligence 14 or 15).
          • INT +2 Bonus, means you have to *add* +2 to your existing Modifier value, e.g. you have INT +1, with "INT +2 Bonus" will yield an absolute Modifier of INT +3.

On how the Attribute *Modifiers* influence Skills, see the How do the Attributes effect your PC & Team? Q&A.

What is a character's "To Hit" value?

Your character's "To Hit" value determines whether he or she will hit the enemy target. When you attack, a dice with 20 sides is thrown (d20). That value added to your "To Hit" value (also called "Attack Bonus" or AB on these forums) must exceed the enemy target's Defense value for your attack to hit. If you roll a 20, you make a Critical Hit, and your attack not only automatically hits, but the damage done is doubled. If you roll a 1, you automatically miss (Critical Miss). Wielding a weapon in your offhand increases your damage range, but decreases your "To Hit" value.

*How do the Attributes effect your PC & Team?

See the Notation: On Attributes, Modifiers and Bonuses? Q&A for an introduction to Attributes:

          Strength
          Skills that it modifies: none

This Attribute determines your "To Hit" value (see the What is a character's "To Hit" value? Q&A) and the amount of damage your character is capable of dealing out. Your character's STR modifier is added to your normal "To Hit" value and weapon Damage Range as a bonus (Note: Only to Melee Weapons though).

E.g. using a normal Lightsaber (2-16 Damage Range), a character with 20 Strength (STR +5) would be able to deal out 7-21 Damage.

          • "To Hit": + STR (if STR > DEX, Melee only!)
          • Damage Range: + STR

          Dexterity
          Skills that it modifies: Stealth

This Attribute determines your "To Hit" value (if DEX > STR, the DEX modifier will be added instead) and your Defense. It also effects your Reflex Saves (the DEX modifier is added on as a bonus). This Attribute also deals with your character's Skills in using Ranged Weapons:

          • "To Hit": + DEX (if DEX > STR)
          • Defense: + DEX (if DEX > STR)
          • Reflex Saves: + DEX

          • Stealth: + DEX

          Constitution
          Skills that it modifies: none

This Attribute deals primarily with the amount of Vitality points (VP) your character gains at each level up – I think the CON modifier is added along with the VP you gain for a particular class:

E.g. a Soldier (Character Class +10), with 20 Constitution (CON +5 Bonus) would gain 15 VP (10 + 5) at each level up. This Attribute also affects your Fortitude Saves.

          • Vitality per Level gain = Char Class + CON
          • Fortitude Saves: + CON

          Star Forge, Force Death Field
          Wisdom
Skills that it modifies: Awareness, Security, Treat Injury

One of the most *important* Attributes in the game. This Attribute increases the Difficulty Class (DC, read What is the Difficulty Class - DC?) of your Force powers, the amount of your Force Points (FP), and your Will Saves (Jedi Power saving throws).

          • Difficulty Class: + WIS
          • Force Points per Level gain = Char Class + WIS + CHA
          • Will Saves: + WIS

          • Awareness: + WIS
          • Security: + WIS
          • Treat Injury: + WIS

          Intelligence
Skills that it modifies: Computer Use, Demolitions, Repair

This Attribute's modifier together with the Character Class you have chosen determines the number of Skill Points your character receives initially.

          Initial Character Class (ICC) points: Soldier's = 1, Scout's = 3, and Scoundrel's = 4 points. You get an extra 4 points for each INT +1 modifier.

          Initial Skill Points = (ICC + INT) * 4

          E.g. If you are a Scoundrel (ICC 4) with Intelligence 14 (INT +2), you will have 24 (= (4 + 2) * 4) Skill points to spend.

          Character Class (CC) points: Scoundrel: CC = 8, Scout: CC = 6, Soldier: CC = 2, Sentinel: CC = 4, Guardian: CC = 2, Consular: CC = 2

          • Skill Points gain per Level & Char = (CC + INT) / 2

          • Computer Use: + INT
          • Demolitions: + INT
          • Repair: + INT

Note: This Attribute, unlike in Never Winter Nights, does not determine how your character will speak. Also note that a base Intelligence value of 14 points is recommended.

          Charisma
          Skills that it modifies: Persuade

Does exactly what Wisdom does, just does *not* affect your Will saves.

          • Difficulty Class: + CHA
          • Force Points per Level gain = Char Class + WIS + CHA

          • Persuade: + CHA

Be sure to read the What is the Difficulty Class - DC? Q&A, that also explains Fortitude, Reflex, and Will saves!

*What is the Difficulty Class - DC?

The Difficulty Class is the value that a target of a Force power or Ability must save against to avoid some or most of its effects. That is where the Fortitude, Reflex, and Will saves come into play.

The DC of your Force powers is often determined as thus:

Difficulty Class = PC Level + WIS + CHA

E.g. you have a Level 20 character with 20 Wisdom (WIS +5) and 16 Charisma (CHA +3), the Force powers he casts will have a DC of 28 (20 + 5 + 3). The PC casts a Force power that *will* paralyze a target, unless the target makes his Fortitude save. In this case the target must save against a DC value of 28.

What does that mean? When a character makes a "Saving Throw" against a Force power or ability (let us say it is a Fortitude check), a 20-sided dice (d20) is thrown. That rolled value plus your Fortitude save value is your "Saving Throw."

          Saving Throw = Fortitude save + d20

If your Saving Throw value exceeds the DC of the spell, you have dodged the effects of the spell! If not you will be hit by the full effects of the spell. Not good.

Other Saves: There are also Reflex saves and Will saves, which are calculated exactly as Fortitude is. Different Force powers and abilities will require a DC check of a different save (read its description).

          *On Skill Modifiers?

Something to note when reading the in-game info on items that modify your Skills. The "+X" numbers do *not* up that Skill's *base value*, but in fact up that Skill's *Modifier*. In others words "+X" is a Modifier Bonus:

E.g. Calrissian's Utility Belt: Computer Use +3, Demolitions +3, Repair +3, Security +3, is actually short for: Computer Use (COM +3 Bonus), Demolitions (DEM +3 Bonus), Repair (REP +3 Bonus), Security (SEC +3 Bonus)!

Note: On your Skill's in-game screen (K-key), you will note how the above example will *not* change your "Skill Rank" (base value), but only up your "Bonus".

          Skills & corresponding Modifiers

          • Computer Use - COM
          • Demolitions - DEM
          • Stealth - STE
          • Awareness - AWA
          • Persuade - PER
          • Repair - REP
          • Security - SEC
          • Treat Injury - TRE

Note: It seems Skills do *not* have Modifiers. I use them here in analogy to the Attribute Modifiers as a convenient way to denote not the Skill but its Bonus (the equivalent to Modifier). See above example Calrissian's Utility Belt.

How to boost your Repair skills temporarily?

You PC will not really require high Repair skills for most of the game (boost them on team members!). There is only one situation where the *PC* must have them - when repairing HK-47 (see What is the HK-47 side-quest? Q&A). So to avoid "wasting" Repair skill points for a "one job thing", try this:

Anything that could boost your character's Intelligence modifier (INT) could boost your Repair skill, or:

          • The Valor Force powers, which give bonuses to all your Attributes, raise your character's Repair skills.

          • The Gear Head Feats also boost the Skill (not recommended getting them though).

          • Calrissian's Utility Belt found in the store at the Jedi Enclave landing port.
Note: Useful in other situations: Computer Use (COM +3 Bonus), Demolitions (DEM +3 Bonus), Repair (REP +3 Bonus), Security (SEC +3 Bonus).

          • The only in-game item to boost the Intelligence Attribute is Gadon Thek's Cerebral Implant (Intelligence +1 Bonus). As Force Valor boosts your Intelligence Attribute by an uneven number, you can gain a full another INT +1 Bonus on your Repair skill by using this implant along with Force Valor. Read the Boosting Intelligence with Cerebral Implant & Force Valor? Q&A for a more detailed explaination.

          • The Advanced Agent Interface, you can buy on Yavin: Repair (REP +7 Bonus).
Note: Useful, but you cannot buy it from Suvam Tan until *after* the final Star Map, at which time you have already completed the Leviathan, which means the HK-47-Repair Quest is invalid.

Note: Even with the above you will probably still need a base Repair skill at least 10 points (REP 0) as a good basis.

Boosting Intelligence with Cerebral Implant & Force Valor?

The only in-game item to boost the Intelligence Attribute is Gadon Thek's Cerebral Implant (Intelligence +1 Bonus), this Implant will help you gain another INT +1 Bonus, when used together with the Force Valor, thus boosting your Repair skill:

Repair = Repair (base) + INT (modifier = Repair Bonus)

Details: A Char with an *even* number of Intelligence points can raise his Intelligence with the implant, but he would *not* gain any Modifier bonuses to his skills, e.g.:

          Intelligence 14 (INT +2) + Implant (+1 Intelligence)
          --> Intelligence 15 (still! INT +2).
A Char with an *uneven* number of Intelligence points, however, will reach the next bonus modifier level, e.g.:

Intelligence 11 (no bonus; INT 0) + Implant (+1 Intelligence) --> Intelligence 12 (INT +1), yielding an extra +1 Modifier Bonus to Repair skill (i.e. INT +1 = Repair +1 Bonus)!
Force Valor: Always boosts all Attributes by an uneven number, e.g.:

          Intelligence 10 (INT 0) + Master Valor (+5 Intelligence) --> 15 Intelligence (INT +2),
yields +2 bonus to Repair (Repair +2 Bonus).
And now the same with the Implant, e.g.:

          Intelligence 10 + Master Valor (+5 Intelligence) + Implant (+1 Intelligence) --> 16 Intelligence (INT +3) yields Repair bonus (Repair +3 Bonus).
The Implant is therefore only of use if it helps your char to gain enough Intelligence Attribute points to reach a new higher *even* level of Intelligence Attribute points. In other words a higher INT (modifier) or Repair Bonus value.

Commentary: Counting the completed Quests just before they are reset visiting the Unknown World, should give you an exact count of completed Quests... well it does not! A significant amount of Quests when completed simply seem to be removed. Thus your Quest counts are in fact much higher! (Æon)

          *Gameplay Alternatives?

One of the facinating and quite outstanding features are the many *many* gameplay alternatives in KotOR. Meaning, quite often there are several ways to reach/complete a game relevant Quest. And this is what keeps the game appealing to the player the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... time he/she plays the game. Below a list of situations with alternatives, you might like to try out:

          Alternatives:

          • On Korriban, you need a Medallion to get into the Sith Academy: With a high enough Persuade skill you can talk Yuthura (in the Bar) into accepting you. Should you lack the Persuade skill, just walk back to the Ebon Hawk, you will meet some waked out Sith student about to kill bystanders. If you "stop him", you can collect his Medallion.
            Mini-game, escaping the Leviathan
          • It is well worth to try every one of your team members, when infiltrating the Leviathan (i.e. get Carth, Bastila and the PC out of prison). Personally I liked how Mission badmouthed the guards best. But try using: HK-47, Jolee, Juhani, T3-M4, Canderous. Zaalbar will not work, he is to conspicuous!
          • Play Korriban as *last* planet: You can tell the Sith you are Revan and they will laugh at you. And Yuthura Ban tells you the history of Revan and she actually does believe that the he/she could be out there somewhere but she does not suspect that is the case. Freaky... Also talk to the Sith Guard at the Gate, Master Uthar and even Ajunta Pall. Definitely worth your time!
          • Taris, Upper City Cantina: Niklos quits and insults you after you have beaten him several times (up to ten games) at Pazaak. Male PCs get the occasion to flirt heavily with Christya if they beat Niklos before: Christya is a 'Pazaak Groupie'.
          • When leaving the Tomb of Ajunta Pall, one of the Sith Students, Shaardan, will want the Sword of Ajunta Pall. Give him one of the two other *wrong* swords. He will not know the difference and run off with it to Master Uthar, the fool! You will see him, later, when you return to Master Uthar...
          • ...

Since there are so many things you can try out in the game, here are several more basic suggestions:

          • Play the game at *least* twice.
          • Choice: Male/Female (different Romance possibilities, NPCs hitting on female PC)
          • Choice: Light Side/Dark Side (e.g. DS use Force Persuade (new dialogs), and DS Force Powers!)
          • Swap your team members around for new dialogs.
          • Play the planets in another order.
          • To get more out of the game a high Persuade skill is recommended.

        Characters

        TEAM MEMBERS
          About your Team?
In the course of the game 9 characters can/will join your team these are (more or less in order of appearance):

          • On Taris: Carth, Mission, Zaalbar, Bastila, T3-M4, Canderous
          • On Dantooine: Juhani
          • On Tatooine: HK-47
          • On Kashyyyk: Jolee

Appart from their various waepon, security, force etc. skills, most of them have an interesting story to tell, see their side-quests Q&As below.

How to advance Team Member side-quest dialogs more quickly?

Almost all members in your team have interesting dialogs going. If you keep talking to them long enough, side-quests will be presented. You may want to get to these side-quests more quickly, though... An easy way to advance NPC dialog is to board the Ebon Hawk and exit it again with the party member. A new branch of dialog will then be available.

Note: It should be noted though that this only works up to a point. Side-quest dialog options are added based on your XP (Experience points), and thus you must gain more XP to progress the story further.

Experience: Usually I complete Dantooine, and one additional planet before talking to my NPC's (team members) in depth. Then I return to the Ebon Hawk and go around to each one moving through their dialog. By that point, you will have nearly enough XP to reach all of the set dialog Trigger Points (see Team Member side-quest Trigger Points Q&A). Then I simply take them off the Ebon Hawk in pairs triggering both of their side-quests. Next, choose Party Selection, and grab the next two, triggering theirs, etc. This way, you will have all side-quests activated already as you move from planet to planet, and will not have to do a lot of returning to those planets a second time to complete the quests. Makes the game go much faster. (Ace Savoron)

          Team Member side-quest Trigger Points?

Below you can read up on the specific entry in the dialogs with your team members, that will their side-quests:

          • Carth - Talks about his wife and son being killed.
          • Bastila - Talks about her relationship with her mother.
          • Canderous - Talks about honor, and how Revan "saved the day" once.
Note: Your journal *must* mention Revan, or the side-quest is not unlocked. He will talk about honor several times before actually talking about Revan.
          • Juhani - Talks about life on Taris, specifically being sold into slavery.
          • Mission - Talks about her brother Griff, Lena, and deserting her.

          Team Members can produce items?

When you are on board the Ebon Hawk, several of your team members will be able to produce items that come in handy in the many quests.

          • Mission: Will build up to 8 Security Tunnlers for you.
Note: Since these are useless is the game, simply turn them into Credits by selling them.
          • Zaalbar: Can produce an assortment of Grenades.
Alas no valuable Plasma Grenades or Thermal Detonators :(.
          • T3-M4: Will produce up to 11 Computer Spikes (very useful).
          • Canderous: Hands you an assortment of Adrenal Stimulants.
          • Jolee: Can "brew up" a few Health Packs.

You should be aware that the chars will not produce anything, if you have "enough" of that item, and they will tell you in no uncertain words.

        BASTILA

          *What is the Bastila side-quest?
Hint: Talk to her and find out.

After talking to her several times, some female Twi'lek will recognize Bastila near the Ebon Hawk hangar on Dantooine. She will talk of Bastila's mother, who is not feeling well and seems to be looking for Bastila. This upsets Bastila, who never got along well with her mother. The Twi'lek also says that Bastila's mother is somewhere on Tatooine.

Spoiler: You meet Bastila's mom in the Bar on Tatooine, she says that Bastila's father died on a hunting expedition in the desert and that you are to retrieve his holocron, and give it to her. It turns out that the holocron is in the cave with the Star Map. After getting it return to the bar, and convince Bastila to make up with her mother. The latter is mandatory should you want to Romance Bastila as male PC. Also see How to Romance Bastila? Q&A.

          *How to Romance Bastila?

          Bastila in 'Angry' Underwear
Hint: Play male PC, sweet talk Bastila, smooth the tension between Bastila and her mother...

Just keep talking to her – eventually, if you did the romance right, you will get a kiss-scene. You will have to complete Bastila's side-quest first though (see What is Juhani's side-quest? Q&A)...

Note: Once you are past the kiss-scene, do *not* talk to Bastila again (or it will be the end of your hard-earned romance; it is a bug)! This is to get a bit more interesting dialog during the Temple roof confrontation on the Unknown World.

Spoiler: If you romanced Bastila as male PC, kissed her and did not talk to her, you will get a few extra dialog choices on the Temple roof on the Unknown World. First time, with Bastila still under Malak's influence:

"1. Don't do this, Bastila! Fight it! I'll help you!"
"2. I like this side of you, Bastila. Now we can truly be together."

          After beating Bastila:

"1. Please, Bastila... if you feel anything for me, your won't do this!"
"3. Yes! Together we can rule the galaxy!"
"4. How do I know I can trust you?"

Before you agree to 3., try 4. and get this nice monolog by Bastila:

"I need deny my passions no longer, Revan. I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice! I swore allegiance to Malak only because I thought you had lost the power you had once wielded. But this... this would be much better. I would be utterly yours, master! Together we would destroy Malak and you would reclaim the mantle of Dark Lord!"
Tip: An easy way to advance NPC dialog is to board the Ebon Hawk and exit it again with the party member. A new branch of dialog will then be available.

Revan and Bastila live DS ever after
Does the game end after you find Bastila?

If you mean on Taris, then no, your adventure is only beginning.

And if you mean when meeting her again on the Temple roof on the Unknown World (she has been turned to the Dark Side in the meantime), nope again: No matter how you play this, you will still need to "clean up" the Star Forge and Malak.

        CANDEROUS

          *What is Canderous' side-quest?
Hint: Listen to his stories and find out.

Keep on listening to Canderous' war stories. At some point, when Canderous is on your excursion team, at one of the spaceports (depending the order you play the Star Maps / Planets, this will differ) a Mandalorian who knows him will come up and start a conversation.

Spoiler: This Mandalorian called Jagi will challenge Canderous to a shootout on Tatooine ("Jagi's Challenge" Quest). Take the Ebon Hawk to Tatooine, exit Anchorhead, walk toward the Sandcrawler's right side, you will meet the Mandalorian there.

Spoiler: You can actually Persuade (skill of 16 required) the Mandalorian that Canderous was right in his doings. Jagi will then commit suicide, this will gain you LS points.

Spoiler: That was pretty much it, after the Leviathan Escape Canderous will be a "changed" man, he will unconditionally follow Revan then, and on the Beach on the Unknown World stick with you even should you have joined Bastila and the DS.

          Where does Jagi spawn?

Jagi is part of Canderous' side-quest, read the What is Canderous' side-quest? Q&A for details.

        CARTH

          What is Carth's side-quest?
Hint: Talk to him and find out.

It is two part actually: On the one hand you can/should find his son, read How do I get to meet Carth's son Dustil? Q&A on this. On the other hand there is the Romance going on, see the How to Romance Carth? Q&A.

How do I get to meet Carth's son Dustil?

Hint: Develop Carth's side-quest by talking to him and with him in your party leave any of the Ebon Hawk hangars.

After having talked to Carth enough, and with him in your party, a man named Jordo will approach you and talk about old times and Carth's son, Dustil. Carth learns that his son is still alive, training at the Sith Academy on Korriban. If you then visit Korriban with the Ebon Hawk, and search the Sith Academy chambers, you will find Dustil.

How to turn Carth's son Dustil to the LS again?

Hint: See How do I get to meet Carth's son Dustil? Q&A first.

          Map: Korriban, Sith Academy

Dustil needs to be convinced that the Sith are evil (Require a certain level of Persuasion skill), plus some proof of Sith treachery.

Spoiler: Go to Uthar Wynn's Room at the Academy, a new chest will appear, it contains a datapad that proves the evil doings of the Sith. Give the datapad to Dustil.

          How to Romance Carth?

Hint: Play female PC, sweet talk Carth, save his son from the DS.

The lowdown: Sweet talk, flit etc. with Carth, then help him find his son and turn Dustil to the LS (see How do I get to meet Carth's son Dustil? Q&A), this is important to gain his gratitude, then flirt some more, keep on doing LS deeds to completely gain his confidence.

Spoiler: Alas when playing LS, there is nothing much more to the Romance: On the Beach (Unknown World) after you confronted Bastila on the Temple roof, all team members will meet in front of the Ebon Hawk, and Carth will confide his love to you. That is it.

Tip: Listen to Mission's comments though :).

Spoiler: If you have gained Carth's trust, but then turn DS and join Bastila on the Temple roof on the Unknown World, things get a bit more interesting. Since Jolee and Juhani are dead, Carth will not like your turning DS, and he swears to try to help you get back LS and runs off. If you then go to the Star Forge, and beat Malak, Carth will appear again in front of the Ebon Hawk, wanting to change you back to the LS...

        HK-47

          What is the HK-47 side-quest?
Hint: Talk to HK-47, use your Repair skills, and find out.

Once you have bought HK-47 in the Droid shop on Tatooine, you will find out that he seems to have problems accessing certain parts of his memory. Notably his core memories.

Spoiler: When you talk to HK-47 you are offered to repair him. If your Repair skill is above 10, you will be able to repair HK-47. Doing so will revive memories of the misfortunes of all his previous owners. Plus upgrade some of his skills: Better Dexterity and Defense plus, and Vitality regeneration. In total you can repair him 4 times. Also read the Stimulus to restore HK-47's memory core? Q&A.

          Details:

          • Repair #1: required Repair skill: 10, result: Dexterity, +2 (14 to 16)
          • Repair #2: required Repair skill: 12, result: Dexterity, +2 (16 to 18)
          • Repair #3: required Repair skill: 14, result: Vitality Regeneration, +1
          • Repair #4: required Repair skill: 17, result: Dexterity, +1 (18 to 19), and Vitality Regeneration, +1 to +2

Note: When talking to HK-47 the dialog will mention different upgrades. But the above value are what you *really* get!

Tip: A Scout/Sentinel has Repair as a class skill.

Note: The repairs *must* be completed prior to the Leviathan sequence or the option is lost.

Tip: You only need to up your PC's Repair skill to 12 or 13, and then using equipment and/or Feats boost it to the final 17 skill. You will *never* use a skill of 17 anywhere else in the game, so it is a waste of 5 precious skill points that could be used elsewhere.

Also read the How to boost your Repair skills temporarily? Q&A.

Stimulus to restore HK-47's memory core?

Hint: Just be yourself, post Leviathan :)

After you have done the What is the HK-47 side-quest? Q&A, HK-47 will still not be able to remember his first master or access any of his core memories.

Spoiler: The Stimulus to active the memory core, is the return to his first master. Revan as it turns out. Since you know you were Revan after the Leviathan sequence. HK-47 will remember you and activate his memory core. This completes his side-quest.

Note: After the Leviathan escape, all team members meet on the Ebon Hawk, and there is a discussion among them if you, ex-Revan, can be trusted. IIRC, it is important that you ask HK-47 how he feels about you being Revan. Only asking him, will activate his core memory!

        JOLEE BINDO

          What is Jolee's side-quest?
Hint: Visit Manaan with Jolee on your team.

Map: Manaan, Ahto West, near Holding Cell

Jolee has a quite interesting story to tell, so speak to him from time to time.

Spoiler: When on Manaan, visit Ahto West, you will run into Elora, the wife of Jolee's very old friend Sunry. Elora begs you to get Sunry out of prison. Thus begins the quite long "Sunry Murder Trial" Quest.

          The "Sunry Murder Trial" Quest?

          Hint: See What is Jolee's side-quest? Q&A.

There are several outcomes to this Trial: You can get him into Jail quick, or slow (loosing the full trial), or you can get him off the hook. This is what you need to do to make the Judges find Sunry innocent, and net the Sith a hefty fine for their attempt to manipulate Manaans legal system, while not earning the PC DS points:

          Investigation:

          • Talk to Ignus the hotel keeper: Do not bribe or persuade him (as I am LS), his testimony makes no difference in the end anyway.
          • Talk to Firith Me: Persuade him to tell you that Elassa was a Dark Jedi.
          • Talk to Gluupor: Persuade him to tell you that the Sith paid him to plant Sunry's Medal on Elassa's corpse.
          • Talk to Elora: Persuade her to tell you that Sunry was having an affair with Elassa.
          • Go to the Republic Embassy and hack into their Computer System to get the recording of Sunry murdering Elassa.
          • Talk to Sunry in Holding Cell. Ask him about everything, then tell him you have the recording. Ask (but do not persuade) him to confess. He will refuse, but do not agree to help him cover things up.

          The Trial:

          • Opening statements: No comments.

          • Questioning Firith Me:
            • Ask if Elassa was a Dark Jedi.
            • Ask if he actually saw Sunry kill Elassa.
            • Ask if he thinks the medal on the body was too obvious.
            • No more questions.

          • Questioning Gluupor:
            • Ask him if he actually saw Sunry kill Elassa.
            • Ask him if he planted the Medal on Elassa's corpse.
            • No more questions.

          • Questioning Elora:
            • Ask her if Sunry was having an affair with Elassa.
            • No more questions.

          • Questioning Sunry:
            • Ask if he was going to end the Affair with Elassa.
            • Ask if Elassa could have gotten hold of his Medal somehow.
            • No more questions.

          • Closing statements:
            • No one actually witnessed Sunry kill Elassa.
            • Sunry was ending the Affair, so the Sith killed her.
            • No more comments.

This results in the Judges finding Sunry innocent and forces the Sith to pay for the Republics Kolto purchases for the next year. :good:

        JUHANI

          What is Juhani's side-quest?
Hint: Talk to her and be pacient.

There are actually several interesting things that can happen that concern Juhani.

          • If you kill Juhani in the Grove on Dantooine, her girlfriend Belaya at the Jedi Enclave will not take this well.

Spoiler: Belaya will tell you off, and then turn to the DS. She will leave for Korriban, and confront you in front of the Sith Academy there. All this is not a Quest alas.

          • It is not recommended to kill Juhani, since you will need her Jedi powers in many battles to come.

          • After talking to Juhani for a while, it will come out that a slaver, Xor, actually tried to buy her, but she was saved by Jedi.

Note: When PC is Level 15: Juhani tells you about the Mandalorians destroying Cathar, and her father dying (at the hand of Xor), this will IIRC trigger the Xor Side-Quest.

Spoiler: With Juhani on your team, you will get to meet this Slaver, this enrages Juhani, but keeping her on the LS will gain you LS points, IIRC. There will later on be another confrontation with Xor, testing Juhani's resolve to the LS to the utmost.

          • Being nice from then on will further the Romance with her (see Is a 'Romance' with Juhani possible? Q&A).

          • When on Korriban also look into the Juhani's old friend Dak Vesser? Q&A.

Is a 'Romance' with Juhani possible?

Hint: Play female PC, listen to Juhani.

If you are pleasant to her and listen to her story, she will, bit be bit, fall for you. BTW: This "Romance" does not seem to interfere with the Carth Romance (see the How to Romance Carth? Q&A), should you have pursued that as well.

Spoiler: On the Unknown World, after the Bastila confrontation on the Temple roof, when you stayed on the LS and did *not* side with Bastila, she will confide her love to you. That was it though.

Note: You do not get any flirtatious dialog choices, even as female PC. Juhani stays dead earnest during the game, but she will sometimes blush (not actually visually turn red, her voice and facial expression insinuate a blush). And in the end, you will get her declaration of love. As a male PC, you will not. She will vow loyalty to your cause, though (As a male PC, there are rumors, that Juhani may also vow her love to you as well).

          Juhani's old friend Dak Vesser?

Map: Korriban, Valley of the Dark Lords

If you talk to Dak Vesser in the Valley of the Dark Lords and have Juhani in your party, Dak will leave and reappear in the Korriban Cantina in Dreshdae. Talk to him there without Juhani in your party, to get the option to "do away" with him (yields DS points!).

Note: Should Juhani be on your party at the Cantina, she will *not* let you hurt Dak!

On Dak's body you will find a very rare Eralam Crystal (+2 Attack and +2 Damage, worth 1937 Credits on Yavin Station) that cannot be found in the game elsewhere.

Bug/Exploit: If you leave the area (e.g. for the Sith Academy and then return to the Cantina) you will note that Dak is alive again. This means he can be killed over and over again (unlimited amount of DS points, and of said Crystals)!

Note: Alas this is not recognized as a Quest by the game.

        MISSION VAO

          What is Mission's side-quest?
Hint: By listening to her, you will find out about her Brother.

When talking to Missing, you will learn of her past, how she had to escape with her brother Griff, and how she loathes her brother's girlfriend Lena, who supposedly made Griff leave Taris and leave Mission behind.

Spoiler: The side-quest is triggered when Griff's ex-girlfriend Lena approaches the PC in one of the usual spaceport trigger zones. Lena will only show up, if Mission has mentioned Lena's name at least once in the dialogs with the PC, though. But usually, you get to meet Lena quite early on in the game, even before leaving Dantooine.

Spoiler: Lena will tell you about Griff and that he is working in the Mines on Tatooine. More digging (small pun there ;)) will uncover that Griff is a captive of the Sandpeople. You can free him, and he will talk you into getting Tach Glands for his latest money making scheme, synthetic beer.

Tip: You can get Tach Glands on Kashyyyk in the Upper Shadowlands. Remember the Czerka "thugs" that were hunting there, the guys that Jolee wanted you to get rid of? One of the stashes in their camp contains these glands. Alternatively, if you worked *for* those thugs you could have collected the glands by killing Tach yourself.

Spoiler: After you give Griff the glands, he will try to get more money out of you and scurry off to parts unknown.

          Where is Griff?

Griff, Mission's Brother is part of, you guessed it, Missions's side-quest, read the What is Mission's side-quest? Q&A for details.

        T3-M4

          Does T3-M4 have a side-quest?
Nope. He is a newly created droid, made specially for the raid on the Sith Base on Taris, so he does not have much of a past to produce side-quests.

        ZAALBAR

          What is Zaalbar's side-quest?
Hint: Visit his homeworld Kashyyyk and see.

          Map: Kashyyyk

Zaalbar does not really have a side-quest. Much of the story and the related quests on Kashyyyk center on the Wookiee, so you could call the planet his side-quest. Zaalbar is not very talkative, and even on his homeworld or after that does not really change much. IMO a pretty boring char.

        Locations

        TARIS
How do I open the "Control Room" in the Hidden Bek base?
Map: Taris, Lower City, Hidden Bek Base

When you turn on Gadon Thek of the Hidden Bek (playing DS, siding with the Vulkars), you can enter much of the rest of the Hidden Bek base. Only the "Control Room" is a tad difficult to open since it requires a high Security skill.

Spoiler: The room contains just one console. This lets you use the base's security cameras and download the base's map.

Tip: Use the "setsecurity 99" cheat to open the door.

(Æon: I am not sure you can actually "legally" acquire a high enough security skill to open the door)

How to get a Sith Armor/Uniform?

          Map: Taris, Upper City

To reach the Lower City, you will need to pass a Sith guard at an elevator door. But he only lets those pass that have a Passcard (not available before you visit the Lower City) or look like a Sith. You have two options, not mattering what gender (male or female) PC you are:

Visit the Cantina and talk to a "lonely" Sith woman/man in civvies. She/he will invite you to a party, go there, the hosts soon fall into a coma (drunk), grab a Sith Armor (uniform) there.

Alternatively, skip the Cantina encounter, then surprise some Sith soldiers molesting aliens in one of the Upper Level Apartments (IIRC this is the same apartment complex where the above mentioned party is set). Kill the Sith to get the Sith Uniform.

Tip: The latter option will net you additional XP as well as LS and DS conversation opportunities you would not have otherwise had!

How do I get the Authorization Papers to get to the Lower City?

          Map: Taris, Upper City

You cannot. Organize a Sith Armor/Uniform, and equip the PC with it. The Sith guard at the Upper City door will then let you pass and use the elevator to the Lower City.

Read the How to get a Sith Armor/Uniform? Q&A for details.

How do I get the Authorization Papers to get to the Undercity?

          Map: Taris, Lower City

Story: You will need to strike a deal with the Gadon Thek at the Hidden Bek base. Bastila is captive of the Vulkar, to get her out you need to take part in a Swoop Race, and win Bastila as "prize". Gadon offers to sponsor your Swoop Racer, if in return you infiltrate the Vulkar Base. The Vulkar stole a prototype Swoop Accelerator that Gadon wants back. To get into the Vulkar Base you will need the help of Mission, who happens to have inconveniently run off to the Undercity.

If you indeed promise to get the Swoop Accelerator for Gadon, he will trade your Sith Uniform for Sith Papers. The latter will get you past the Sith Guard to the Undercity.

How to get past the Rancor on Taris?

Rancor in Taris Sewers, bone pile
          Map: Taris, Lower Sewers

There are two ways to get rid of the Rancor, alas you cannot simply sneak past it, team member by team member. In both cases, safely deposit your team members in the corridor, then turn on Solo Mode:

          • There is a Pile of Bones in the middle of the room, place a Grenade and *then* the Rancor Scent in that pile (item insert), the Rancor will then be attracted by the smell, and eat the Grenade, blammo!
Note: You can use your Stealth Belt to place the Grenade/Scent, but it seems that the Pile of Bones is far enough away from the Rancor to *not* notice you.
          • Enter the Rancor room alone, place a few Mines near the Rancor (using a Stealth Belt will help you place mines closer to the Rancor), tease the Rancor to follow you, run back to the corridor. The Rancor should run into the well placed mines and take damage. You will need to use many mines, but this will yield more XP points once the Rancor is dead.

Tip: The Rancor cannot follow you past the corridor door, so you are safe in the corridor!

        DANTOOINE

*Is there any way to enter the Metale Estate?
Nope. Once the Jedi Council sends you off to calm down the feud between the Metale and the Sandral ("Sandral-Metale Feud" Quest), you can talk to the droid guarding the Metale Estate, and then talk to the head of the Metale, Ahlan Metale, but that is it. You can enter the Sandral Estate though.

And yes, the doors at the Metale Estate will mention: "Metale Passcard required for entry". But that Passcard cannot be acquired in the game.

Nurik Sandral is missing his son, where is Casus?

          Map: Dantooine, Metale Grounds

When you are on the "Sandral-Metale Feud" Quest, it becomes possible to find the corpse of Nurik Sandral's missing son Casus.

Spoiler: In the east-most part of the Metale Grounds, near some rocks, you will find the corpse of Casus, and his personal datapad, his Journal. You can give that to the head of the Sandral family Nurik Sandral, though that will not change much in the plot.

Note: By acquiring this datapad, you will not only receive extra XP, but also unlock dialog options and opportunities for LS/DS points with Nurik Sandral that you would not have had otherwise.

Visit the Metale Estate? Extra Credit? DS Points?

Once you are playing the "Sandral-Metale Feud" Quest, and have grabbed the Casus Journal (see Nurik Sandral is missing his son, where is Casus? Q&A):

Spoiler: Stop by the Metale mansion prior to visiting the Sandral estate, and speak to the droid, especially if you are DS. If you choose the right dialog options, Metale will come out and talk with you. This not only nets you XP, but also provides opportunities for DS points in this conversation (as well as at the final meeting), and the chance to net yourself a substantial credit reward.

        TATOOINE

Does the Ronto beast play a role in the game?
Ronto beast, near Tatooine space port
          Map: Tatooine, Anchorhead, near Hangar

The (fat) giraffe-like beast, called Ronto, right outside the hangar doors on Tatooine, will let you "talk" to it. But alas other than raise on its hind legs it will do nothing. BTW, "feeding" it Bantha Fodder does nothing.

          Annoyed Hunters do not retaliate?

          Map: Tatooine, Anchorhead, Hunting Lodge

Playing DS, you can really clear out the Hunting Lodge, with rude comments, making most of the Hunters leave the lodge. But they will not get back at you, they are just generic NPCs, in case you are wondering. Only the Gamorreans ("Pig"-like aliens) will set a trap near the Sandcrawer, but they will do that no matter how you treat them. If you annoy Tanis Venn (his wife later on sets a droid trap for him), he will recognize you in the desert, but still want your help. Two other hunters seem to make a reappearance when you go after the Krayt dragon.

*How to get two Krayt Dragon Pearls?

          Map: Tatooine,

If you have no problems with a few extra DS, there is a way to get *two* of the Krayt Dragon Pearls on Tatooine. As the Where to find Crystals for my Lightsaber? Q&A reveals, these Pearls can be used as Lightsaber crystals. Krayt Dragon Pearls are among the most powerful crystals you will find *early* on in the game.

Spoiler: You will get one Krayt Dragon Pearl, when you kill the Krayt Dragon, a second one can be obtained, by telling the Twi'lek Komad Fortuna, the hunter you cooperated with to kill the Dragon, you want a larger reward. This will lead to a fight and DS points. The Komad Fortuna has the 2nd Krayt Dragon Pearl on his body.

        MANAAN

Is the "Kolto Distribution Center" relevant? Can I deal in Kolto?
          Map: Manaan, West Central

The Kolto Distribution Center will provide you with a bit more background story on the importance of Kolto. You cannot get a permit to deal in Kolto yourself. In other words, nothing quest relevant.

How to get the Genoharadan (Assassin) side-quest?

          Showdown with Hulas, the Genoharadan
Map: Manaan, East Central, South of Courtyard, near water

After killing Calo North (the Bounty Hunter you thought you had gotten rid of when stealing the Ebon Hawk on Taris), the Genoharadan side-quest will become available on Manaan. You will be approached by a male Twi'lek telling you that you dropped your datapad. This is an informal invitation to meet a certain Rodian on Manaan. You will find this Rodian called Hulas in East Central, near the water. After some talk, he will tell you that he is one of the 4 heads of the secret Genoharadan guild. If you want in, you will need to assassinate at least one of two beings. He will give you all the details. After you passed the "test", there are 3 more beings to assassinate. This will get you quite valuable and rare items, your team can well use, plus some extra Credits.

Note: This will gain you DS points, so if you are playing LS you may want to watch out.

Spoiler: After you have performed the assassinations, there is a showdown with Hulas on Tatooine.

          Fuel Tank Pressure Control Puzzel?

Map: Manaan, Hrakert Rift, Kolto Control Panel

The two scientists that survived the underwater slaughter, will suggest two ways to get rid of the huge Sea Beast (the Progenitor as it turns out). One is to Poison it, rather trivial and morally not quite the LS thing to do. The other possibility is to blow up the underwater machinery of the station, by over-pressurizing it:

          • Fill the Container Pod. (injector = 0, container = 5 parts)
          • Transfer from Container to Injector. (injector = 3, container = 2 )
          • Dump the Injector Pod. (injector = 0, container = 2)
          • Transfer from Container to Injector. (injector = 2, container = 0)
          • Fill the Container Pod. (injector = 2, container = 5)
          • Transfer from Container to Injector. (injector = 3, container = 4)

Æon: My method is a bit slower but works just as well:

          • (injector = 3, container = 0) ^ - -
          • (injector = 0, container = 3) - > -
          • (injector = 3, container = 3) ^ - -
          • (injector = 1, container = 5) - > -
          • (injector = 1, container = 0) - - x
          • (injector = 0, container = 1) - > -
          • (injector = 3, container = 1) ^ - -
          • (injector = 0, container = 4) - > -

As long as the Container contains 4 parts at then end of the procedure.

How to get off the hook after killing the Sea Beast?

Map: Manaan, after poisoning Sea Beast, leaving Republic Embassy

When underwater on Manaan, you have two possibilities to get past the Sea Beast that is guarding the Star Map. Destroy the machinery here, that is irritating the beast (see the Fuel Tank Pressure Control Puzzle? Q&A) or simply Poison it.

If you do the latter, it will be a bit more difficult to explain the situation to the Selkath Judges. After killing the Sea Beast via Poison, returning to the surface, and leaving the Republic Embassy, you will be put to trial for your deeds. Here is what to do to *not* get permanently banned from Manaan:

          • At the initial response, tell the truth, that "The harvesting machinery released a toxin into the water".

          • When they ask what happened to the station, respond with "It is not my fault! The harvester malfunctioned!".

          • When they ask what happened to the machinery, respond with "Okay, I did it. But you cannot do anything to me - I know too much!".

          • When the court suggests that they will ban the entire republic, respond with "If you ban us, I will tell that the Kolto is destroyed!"

Note: Even though above *will* get you off the hook from venting the toxin, the lack of Kolto (an essential ingredient for healing) will make the prices for all Med Packs (on all Planets) go up!

*Can the Power for Ahto City on Manaan be shut down?

          Map: Manaan, Republic Embassy

The computer terminal at the Republic Embassy, where you can hack a Sith Passcard, will let you turn off the Power for Ahto City ("Disable local power grid"). This will not work though, there is absolutely no way to turn off the power (even when cheating). It was probably part of a Side-quest that got cut in the final release, but the option to do it was left in the game.

          *Leaving Sith Base without Proof?

          Map: Manaan, Sith Base

Should you not have accepted to search for the missing Selkath, one door in the Sith Base will have been blocked to you. The part of the Base, that shows that Selkath Youths have been manipulated by the Sith. After tearing the Sith Base apart to finding the Droid Data, the Selkath will await you on leaving the base. But since you have no proof that the Sith are involved in criminal actions, you may have a hard time to convince the judges you had the "right" to be in the Sith Base. It is possible though!

Spoiler: Tell your Arbiter that the Sith tricked you, and defend yourself in front of the Judges. Tell them you had Business with the Sith, that they offered you a Job, they attacked you and you had to defend yourself. The Judges will find this doubtful, but set you free for lack for evidence.

        KASHYYYK

          LEVIATHAN

            KORRIBAN

What is up with the bed you can activate in Uthar Wynn's Room?
Hint: This is part of the "The Double-Cross" and "The Double-Double-Cross" Quests between the PC, Yuthura Ban, and Uthar Wynn.

Map: Korriban, Sith Academy, Uthar Wynn's Room

When you join the Academy, Yuthura Ban will propose that you poison Master Uthar to help her become academy head herself. She promises you help in getting Prestige and a place as her apprentice.

Spoiler: If you now go to Master Uthar and report this, he will be pleased, and give you a datapad telling the underling Adrenas to poison Yuthura. If you go to Yuthura and tell her about your betrayal (*before* going to Adrenas), she will not be pleased, but send you to Uthar Wynn's Room to place some "poison" device in his bed.

Tip: You can then actually poison Uthar *and* Yuthura, by not giving Yuthura the datapad, but instead giving it to the underling (Adrenas) Master Uthar mentioned.

              "The Double-Double-Cross" Quest?

Since there are quite a few possible paths to take, the options in this Quest are fleshed out in more detail:

              • Poison Yuthura by informing Master Uthar of her planned treachery, and give the datapad to his assistant Adrenas.

              • Poison Uthar by returning to Yuthura, and telling her that Uthar knows she is planning something. You have a few options here...

                • You can give the datapad to Yuthura, after which she will not be poisoned, since she knows how to prepare (This is not a good option if you plan to fight her).
                • You can tell her Uthar plans to poison her, getting you the same response as with the datapad.
                • Or you can lie, and say that Uthar is planning something, but you do not know what. This way, she will be poisoned, and will also still give you the device to plant on Uthar's bed.

              • Attach the device from Yuthura on Uthar's bed, and he will be poisoned during the final fight. Depending on how you played it, poisoning both of them can mean a *much* easier fight at the end.

Be sure to also read the What is up with the bed you can activate in Uthar Wynn's Room? Q&A and the Can Yuthura Ban be turned to the Light Side? Q&A.

Post Tomb of Naga Shadow - Peaceful Academy?

As a Final Test you will confront both Master Uthar and Yuthura in the Tomb of Naga Shadow. There are several possible outcomes, to *not* have to fight the whole Academy when you leave the tomb:

              • By siding with Uthar, and fighting Yuthura to the death, Uthar will return to the academy in "peace".
Note: However, you *cannot* poison Master Uthar in the Double-Cross if you wish to be peaceful with Uthar (obviously, he would not take betrayal lightly ;)). Since there is no way to warn him of the poison, he will turn on you when the poison kicks in.

              • Secondly, if you side with Yuthura (who you can poison), she will attack you after Uthar is dead (even if you are "friends"), but will beg for mercy in the end. Showing mercy and allowing her to leave will net you LS points, and the Academy will be peaceful.

However, if you take it further, and convince her to return to the Jedi Order, you will net additional LS points, but the academy will become hostile again.

In short: In both cases - kill Uthar and Yuthura, or kill Uthar and convert Yuthura to the LS - the Sith Academy will be without a Head. This prompts the Sith Upstarts to battle for the Head, forcing you to "clean up" the Academy.

Can Yuthura Ban be turned to the Light Side?

Hint: You will need to gain her "friendship" for this to work!

              Map: Korriban, Sith Academy

Spoiler: When you join the Academy, Yuthura Ban will propose that you poison Master Uthar. You can learn much from her, among other things also about her past. If you have a high enough Persuasion skill (at least 15) you will even be able to win her friendship. When you then double-cross Master Uthar in the "Final Test" and side with Yuthura, beat Uthar, she will still turn on you, but when you beat her, you can *then* show mercy and turn her to the LS.

Tip: You will then have to fight the whole Academy! Much like you would have when killing both Uthar and Yuthura when playing DS.

Yuthura Ban will start telling of her past, is there more?

Hint: Yes, requires advanced Persuade skill.

At the Sith Academy you can make Yuthura tell you about here past. But then she just stops speaking of herself. With a Persuasion skill level of 15 or more your will be able to convince her to "be your friend". Also see Can Yuthura Ban be turned to the Light Side? Q&A.

Can you get LS points in the Interrogation Room?

Hint: High Persuade and Computer skill required.

Map: Korriban, Sith Academy, Interrogation Room

Most outcomes of the interrogation will get you DS points, i.e. even if you succeed. Trouble is succeeding is this: You will not get you anything other than DS points, since the "rat" of a Sith will claim the Prestige for your work.

Spoiler: When at the Computer Console talk to Mandalorian prisoner. You will get a dialog option "[Whisper]: Do you know any way I could free you?". If your Persuade skill is high enough (skill of 15 required), you will be able to "[Persuade] Trust me... I will help you!". He will tell you that you can put him into a catatonic coma with the Computer Console, and that he can thus escape the Sith, if they believe he was really dead.

Spoiler: At the Computer Console, and use it to put the prisoner into a state of catatonia. For this to work, your PC's Computer Use skill must be at least +12. Note: T3-M4 cannot be used here. This will then get you LS points.

Spoiler: Going into the Catatonic Coma, the Mandalorian will tell you where to find the hidden cache, this activates "The Mandalorian Weapons Cache" Quest. Alas you cannot get to the cache, but you can tell Master Uthar about it and gain Prestige.

Can the Prisoners in the Sith Academy be freed?

              Hint: High Persuade skill required.

Map: Korriban, Sith Academy, Dueling Room

Even with a high Persuade skill of 32 (I was cheating), you will not be able to persuade the hurt Sith Duelist to free the prisoners. You can free the prisoners after "Master" Yuthura has taken over the academy - that is, after you sided with her in the Tomb of Naga Sadow, killed Master Uthar, and did not make Yuthura return the LS (to Dantooine).

Spoiler: Once you passed the final test, Persuade (skill of 15 required) the hurt Sith Duelist to free the prisoners. He will then get them out of the Academy. This earns you LS points.

Avoid poisoning/lightning by Mad Hermit in Tomb of Tulak Hord?

Map: Korriban, Tomb of Tulak Hord

Entering the Tomb you will get poisoned (supposedly contact nerve toxin) and fall unconscious, only to wake up to a sick "lesson" in torture by the mad Sith teacher (the Hermit), Jorak Uln. Since this is a scripted sequence, you will always fall unconscious, but you may well be able to avoid the poisoning, by wearing a breathing mask before entering the Tomb.

Apart from the possibility to avoid poison damage with a breath mask, there also seem to be a way to avoid taking any damage from Jorak's Force Lightning (the zapping the PC gets for every "wrong" answer) when you wear the "Electric Capitance Shield" belt before you get caught by him. This belt can be purchased from either Matton or Eli on Kashyyyk, and only there.

              Unfinished Business Quest (Spice)?

              Inside Mysterious Box
Map: Korriban, Dreshdae, near Cantina entrance

Near the Cantina you will find a Rodian called Lurze Kesh, he will remind you of a Spice delivery (smuggling) the previous owner of the Ebon Hawk had promised to do.

Spoiler: If you keep talking, Lurze will give you an access code, that will unlock a secret compartment in Ebon Hawk's Cargo Hold. Get the Spice, and return with it to the Rodian, that will get you up to 1500 Credits.

Spoiler: The Rodian has a second "smuggling" job for you. Bring a Strange Box to Tatooine, to the hands of Motta the Hutt (he manages the local Swoop Race track). This promises another 3000 Credits.

Spoiler: You are warned *not* to open the Box though. Should you do so, you will get your first glimpse of one of the so called Race of "Builders". The folks that built the Star Maps and the Star Forge some 20,000 years ago.

The Energy Pillar Puzzle in the Tomb of Naga Sadow?

Map: Korriban, Tomb of Naga Sadow, Computer Terminal

To solve the puzzle you will need to carefully read the information on the Computer Terminal. Certain rules apply to colored energy bands. Be sure you fully understand these rules. Too complicated? Here is the solution (Move a System from ... to):

              • From Left -> to the Middle pillar.
              • Left --> to Right
              • Middle --> to Right
              • Left --> to Middle
              • Right --> to Left
              • Right --> to Middle
              • Left --> to Middle
              • Left --> to Right
              • Middle --> to Right
              • Middle --> to Left
              • Right --> to Left
              • Middle --> to Right
              • Left --> to Middle
              • Left --> to Right
              • Middle --> to Right

              That should unlock the door.

Note: This is not really a vital Quest, but if you want Naga Sadow's Poison Blade, go for it.

*How pass the Pillar in the Tomb of Ajunta Pall?

Tomb of Ajunta Pall, past pillar, droids activate
Hint: You can not only empty containers, you can also put something into them.

If you read the datapad near the bridge that is blocked in the Tomb of Ajunta Pall, you will learn that the material used to build the Tomb is highly unstable.

Spoiler: Place a Grenade *in* the Pillar, and watch it blow up.

Tip: Once the pillar is gone, Droids will be activated. Do not waste your time trying to destroy them, simply run to the other side of the bridge, and move the Lever there. This will destroy all the Droids. If you want to do it the hard way, you can destroy the droids "manually" and earn extra XP points.

How to pass the Acid Pool in the Tomb of Naga Sadow?

Hint: Read the datapads in the Tomb.

Map: Korriban, Tomb of Naga Sadow

Spoiler: When entering the Tomb, turn right at the first junction. Behind the door are two Rancors, pass them (e.g. via Stealth), activate the Lever to open the other door, there grab the two grenades for them Pillar of Fire and the Pillar of Ice, and return to the Acid Pool.

Spoiler: Acid and Fire do not mix! Better throw in the Ice Grenade.

Powerful Jedi Robes? The Qel-Droma Robes!

Map: Korriban, Valley of the Dark Lords, Shyrack Caves

Spoiler: If you make it past the Tarentatek monster, i.e. across the stone bridge and then walk to the left. You will find skeletal remains of Qel-Droma, on his body you will find the
Qel-Droma Robes (Defense +5 points, Max Dexterity Bonus +8, Wisdom +2 points).

Note: The Qel-Droma Robes are only equipable by LS players, e.g. Jolee as Neutral NPC cannot equip them! The robes are only surpassed by the "Star Forge Robes", see the Star Forge Robes & Revan's Robes? Q&A on this.

              *Use Fire Grenade against Rancors?

Map: Korriban, Tomb of Naga Sadow

As one of the Finals Tests in the Tomb of Naga Sadow, you will find an Ice Grenade and a Fire Grenace. Since the Ice Grenade will be needed (see the How to pass the Acid Pool in the Tomb of Naga Sadow? Q&A), why not use the Fire Grenade to fry the Rancors?

Spoiler: The Fire Grenade (much like Ice Grenades) are Quest Items. This means they cannot be sold and they cannot be used in combat, alas.

*How to placate the Rogue Assassin Droid?

              Hint: Silence is the key.

Map: Korriban, Tomb of Marka Ragnos.

If you talked to the Sith Student near the Tomb of Marka Ragnos, you will have learned that the Rogue Assassin Droid is very sensitive to load sounds. So you might try to follow that tip.

Spoiler: When you enter the Tomb you are immediately attacked by droids. There is no way around this, so destroy them all. Before you open the door at the end of the ramp, you will want to descend the ramp again, near the tomb entrance, you will notice a Corpse. Search it and find a Sound Dampening Stealth Unit.

Spoiler: Only the PC will need to be quiet, so equip the Sound Dampening Stealth Unit belt on the PC, and then enter the room at the top of the ramp.

Spoiler: You now face the Rogue Droid, with the belt equipped, he will appreciate your efforts, and ask you to aid him in shutting him down, to delete his Assassination Protocol.

Hint: Ask the droid about his systems, there are 8 in all. Then keep on asking him for help. The Droid will give you hints, write them down. The hints will then let you reconstruct the order in which the droid's systems must be shut down.

Spoiler: Deactivate the systems in this order: Combat, Motor, Sensory, Memory, Cognitive, Emotional Construct, Creative Simulation, Core.

Choices: After the Core has shut down you can choose to deactivate the Assassination Programming (LS points, droid parts) or trigger the Self-destruct (DS points, you take damage). The third option was to simply run into the room without the sound dampening, or to refuse to help the droid. Forcing you to fight 6 droids in that room and gain neither LS nor DS points.

            YAVIN

Two doors on Yavin Station, can they be opened?
              Map: Yavin Station, Main Room

To the left and right of the main room at Yavin Station there are two massive doors. Alas these cannot be opened.

What is Yavin Station actually good for?

              • The merchant there, Suvam Tan, sells rare valuable items.

              • Suvam Tan has an interesting story to tell.

              • You can sell many things from your inventory for the "best" prices. E.g. your Swoop Racer Race Bonds are worth more here.

              • Sell the otherwise useless Spike Tunnlers (those that Mission will give you on board the Ebon Hawk) for 130 Credits a piece.

              • If you beat Suvam Tan 10 times in Pazaak, he will give you a huge discount (20% off on all items), plus pay much more for the items you want to sell.

              • Play the lucrative Yavin side-quest (see Is there a Yavin Merchant side-quest? Q&A).

              • Talking to Suvam Tan early on in the game, you can get a Dialogue option to Force Persuade Suvam Tan to give you an unspecified Discount; this Discount is 5% on everything he sells!

Note: This dialog option is only available if you have *not* yet beaten him in Pazaak. And choosing this Force Persuade will *forfeit* the 'Pazaak' discount of 20% (win 10 times in Pazaak). After you have beaten the Trandoshans (thugs), you will get two new dialog options to either [Persuade] or [Force Persuade] Suvam to give you all his stuff for free; both options, however, will fail. They are just false trails added to the game for additional flavor.

First time you meet Suvam Tan, after some talk, he will offer you to buy something, you *can* do so. At any time after that just talk to him again, this time asking about him personally, get to talk about the Trandoshans, and that he is an inventor, at this point you will get a [Force Persuade] "Give them to me." (meaning his inventions), this will fail, but the [Force Persuade] "You can cut me a deal.", will work, thus give you the mentioned 5% discount.

Note: Obviously you will *need* to have a Force Persuade (at least Affect Mind) for this to work.

Is there a Yavin Merchant side-quest?

              Map: Yavin Station, Main Room

Spoiler: Yes there is. If you visit the station from time you time, at some point you will meet up with some thugs that are trying to extort the Merchant, Suvam Tan. If you frighten them off, and then come back to the station after you found the *last* Star Map, the thugs will be back with reinforcements. If you beat them all (each thug has 1000 Credits in his purse!), the Suvam Tan will offer you two very valuable Colored Lightsaber Crystals (Mantle of the Force, Heart of the Guardian). These Crystals have special powers and these cost around 25000 and 20000 credits, but are well worth the money. They have a very distinct cool glow, BTW!

Tip: Use a Double-Bladed Lightsaber together with the "Heart of the Guardian", Solari and Upari crystals to get 5-42 damage!

Tip: Beat Suvam Tan at Pazaak, to get the above two Crystals significantly cheaper. See the What is Yavin Station actually good for? Q&A.

How do I get the Crystals: Mantle of the Force, Heart of the Guardian?

Read the Is there a Yavin Merchant side-quest? Q&A.

            UNKNOWN WORLD (Star Forge System)

The Gongs in the Elder Settlement, what are they for?

Other that they give off a nice sound, they seem to have been added purely for decorative purposes.

How to solve the Tile-Puzzle in the Temple Catacombs?

              Map: Unknown World, Temple Catacombs

Reading a datapad nearby suggests you walk the tiles in a pattern that resembles the shape of a capital H. Doing so opens the door. If that is not enough help, take a look at this diagram: Tile-Puzzle Diagram (Curtesy Ace Savoron)

Note: The extra tile (lower right edge of the 3x3 grid) will reset the pattern.

Is there a Side-Quest in the Elder Settlement?

Unknown World, PC turns on Mission & Zaalbar
Tip: Talk to the Elder Researchers.

              Map: Unknown World, Elder Settlement

Spoiler: At the Elder Settlement there is a room with three caged Prisoners, and several Researchers. Talking to Researcher Ll'awa will open an interesting chapter in Rakatan current history.

Spoiler: Researcher Ll'awa tells you about his work to get the "Force Gene" back into their people. If you keep talking to him, he asks you to acquire Genetic Databank information from the Computer in the Temple Catacombs.

Note: This Quest yields 1500 XP. This is only possible, obviously, if you did not destroy the Elder Settlement, yet. You can still complete the Side-Quest and kill all the Elders in the same game, though. Just initiate hostilities with the Elders after returning from the Temple and completing the Side-Quest. So, the Quest is not just for LS players.

Note After talking to the researcher, some players thought that the Side-Quest involved trying to get a genetic sample from The One. This is not required or possible, because after you peacefully talk to the Elders, The One's tribe becomes hostile!

            STAR FORGE

Star Forge Robes & Revan's Robes?
Malak Showdown, Revan in with Star Forge Robes
              Map: Star Forge, Deck 2

Enter the Computer Room (it has 3 terminals) after getting rid of all resistance. Via console you can not only turn off the Turrets (recommended!), "buy" various Armor types (Æon: Never found them useful) for Computer Spikes, but also special very powerful Robes (High Defense value, with full +8 Dexterity, IIRC). At the most, you need 25 Spikes to spawn these robes. On LS, you can create the "Star Forge Robes". On the DS, you can create "Revan's Robes". They are called Customized Jedi Robes on the computer but when spawned you are wearing the actual robes of Darth Revan himself/herself. It is just like the costume in the in-game cut-scenes minus the mask. You cannot actually wear the hood though.

Tip: If you successfully retrieved the Sith Mask on Korriban, it may help to make you "really" look like the "old" Revan in the cut-scenes.

Tip: Since there are 3 Consoles in the Room, you can spawn up to 3 such Robes, one per console. I did so for Juhani, and also for Jolee when playing LS. As strictly Gray Jedi, he does not seem to be able to equip the Robes, though.

How to pass the Droid Generating Room on the Star Forge?

When you finally meet Malak at the Star Forge, he will kill two NPCs quite brutally, and then chat with you for a while. Then he closes the massive doors, and turns on the Star Forges defense system. At 8 (IIRC) points in the room droids will keep respawning. There are two things you can do:

              • Go to every console (Terminal Type A - F) and "Disable Generator", requires Computer Spikes. This will get you quite a bit XP. Should you run out of Spikes, check the Type A-F Spike Bins next to the terminals. For every destroyed Droid you can collect Spikes.
              • Or the easy way out, simply hit the door Malak just slammed in your face, with your Lightsaber (or unlock it if you have the Security skill). It will open and let you get into the Elevator that leads to Malak's Lair. You can actually completely ignore all the Droids this way (Æon: I have the feeling this is a bug in the PC version of KotOR, too easy ;)).

            Fun

              *Favorite in-game Quotations?
During the long hours playing KotOR you may have witnessed many, partly outlandish, comments from your side-kicks, here is a collection of some favorites:

              HK-47

"I would much rather this get bloody, master!"

"If you want this sadly peaceful arrangement to continue, be careful what you ask!"

"Preparing blasters, master, this should be fun!"

"Shall we find something to kill, master, to cheer ourselves up?"

"You have a concern for life, I must admit, I find most unsettling!"
(Commenting on the difference between old and reborn Revan)

"Oh, master! I'm so very disappointed in you!"
(After you refuse Credits for uncovering the disappearance of the Selkath youths on Manaan.)

"Warning: Touch the master's blade and lose an arm, meatbag!"
(Tomb of Ajunta Pall, Shaardan wanting the blade)

"Commentary: One would hope the female is better at repairs than Yuka Laka. I still would like to crush his neck, master."
(Tanis trapped by his wife's droid programming)

"Translation: 2% probability that the miniature organic is simply looking for trouble and needs to be blasted. That may be wishful thinking on my part, master."
              (Revan talking to Iziz)

              Bastila
              PC: "Death to the Jedi!"
              Bastila: "Yeeesss! ..."
(When you turn DS on the Unknown Planet Temple roof, very much reminded me of Al Bundy's... "Stuuurriikkkee" :) )

"My, my. I think the sad fool may actually be in love with you, Revan."
(Beach scene on Unknown World, after having romanced Carth, female PC turns DS)

              Malak
"Wipe this pathetic planet from the face of the galaxy!"

"You are strong, child - but I will break you!"

"Savior, conqueror, hero, villain. You are all things, Revan, and yet you are nothing. In the end you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone."

"Still... still spouting the wisdom of the Jedi, I see. Maybe there is more truth in their code than I ever believed. I... I cannot help but wonder, Revan. What would have happened had our positions been reversed? What if fate had decreed I would be captured by the Jedi? Could I have returned to the light, as you did? If you had not led me down the dark path in the first place, what destiny would I have found?"

"I wanted to be Master of the Sith and ruler of the galaxy. But that destiny was not mine, Revan. It might have been yours, perhaps . . . but never mine. And in the end, as the darkness takes me, I am nothing."

              Jolee
"One really has to wonder if all the Sith start off this gullible."
(PC (DS) convinces Prospective Sith Student to attack the Sith Guard as last "Test")

Sith Guard: "I deserve to be locked up for disobeying orders."
(Jolee convinces Sith Guard on Leviathan)

"My hearing's not so good. I'm just pleased my nice master doesn't beat me so much anymore, yes sir."
(Yuthura Ban in Cantina, asks about team members, PC says they are "just" Slaves)
              Mission
"*whisper* I can be pretty convincing if I have to be, but that mind trick is something else!"
(PC uses Force Persuade on Selkath Port Official on Manaan, to avoid fee)

"I saw Lena for what she really was - a busty, credit-grabbing cantina rat."

"Don't start trashing my brother, you cantina rat. Take that back or I'll smack you so hard your head-tails will pop off!"

"Griff's better off without you anyway, you table-dancing, brother-stealing home wrecker!"
              (Mission meets Lena)

              OTHER EXCHANGES:

Canderous vs. Bastila - Han Solo and Leia ring a few bells

Canderous: "So, Bastila, I heard a rumor that the Vulkars captured without much of a struggle. It must be embarrassing to be bested by a handful of street thugs."

Bastila: "There were extenuating circumstances. And I can assure you that it took far more than a handful of Vulkars to subdue me."

Revan: "Okay, let's not get into this"

Canderous: "Whatever you say. All I know is that if we had more Jedi like Bastila fighting against us in the Mandalorian Wars, my side might not have lost."

Bastila: "Bold talk from a broken-down mercenary who was serving at Davik’s heel. I’d call you his pet kath hound, but they have enough loyalty not to turn on their masters."

Canderous: "Insults? Maybe if your master trained your lightsaber to be as quick as your tongue, you could have escaped those Vulkars, you spoiled Jedi Princess."

Bastila: "I was not spoiled! I was given the same training as everyone else in the Order! You are nothing but a ...no. I must not do this. There is no emotion; there is peace."

Canderous: "That's the problem with you Jedi. Always chanting about peace and control, never up for a good fight. Well, except for Revan, I guess."

Bastila: "Enough, Mandalorian. I won't rise to your bait anymore. The game is over. Let us continue with what we are doing."

              Flirting with Bastila

Revan: "Got something on your mind Bastila?"

Bastila: "Why yes, how did you know?"

Revan: "From the way you kept staring, see anything you like?"

Finish conversation with Jolee - and it is very true:

              Revan: "That's all for now."

Jolee: "Oh I get it. Let's play with the old man's head, shall we? After all, he's only half senile. He'll forget I said anything! Umm, what were we talking about?"

Prospective Sith Students - Academy Gate:

Jolee: "Why not shoot them where they stand? It would at least be more direct."

Canderous: "That's what I would do."

Jolee: "Of course that's what *you* would do."

Revan vs. Lashowe - Dreshdae, Lashowe is overly confident:

Revan: "You can try to kill me. You'd fail, but you can try."

HK-47: "Commentary: That's the way to tell the meatbags, master! Charging weapons, just in case. This should be fun."

              Three Dark Jedi

Dark Jedi: "Lord Malak was most displeased when he heard you had escaped Taris alive! He has promised a great reward to whoever destroys you!"

              Bastila vs. Revan

Revan: "You have something you wanted to ask me?"

Bastila: "I do, how did you know?"

Revan: Well, your face gets all scrunched up like a Kinraith pup when you're thinking."

Bastila: "I... a KINRAITH PUP? It does NOT!... I am a Jedi, my thoughts remain hidden, including my feelings for you... I mean whatever I feel for y... Whatever I THINK about you."

              Mission vs. Bastila

Mission: "Hey, Bastila. You ever use the force to trip someone up?"

              Bastila: "I beg your pardon?"

Mission: "Ahhh come on, lighten up you can tell me... you ever used the force to trip up some slime ball who was annoying you?"

Bastila: "Of course not! I would never use the force for such trivial and petty revenge. Such childish notions are below me."

Mission: "Is that a dig about my age? Cause you aint much older than me you Miss prissy high and might...."

*Bastila turns slightly and Mission falls over on her behind*

Mission: "What the... HEY THAT WASN'T FUNNY!"

Bastila: "I have no idea what you're talking about Mission my dear. But do try to be less... clumsy in future."

Revan & Prestige - Classic Lawrel and Hardy, almost.

Revan: "How do I gain prestige?"

Uthar Wynn: "Oh? It is no more complicated than I said. Perform impressive deeds or bring me a suitably valuable artifact from the Valley of the Dark Lords."

HK-47: "Observation: We could begin by slaughtering the inhabitants of the building, master. Would that be impressive?"

              T3-M4: "Beep-beep boop boooop."

HK-47: "No, I didn't mean *us* as well, you moronic droid."

Revan & Canderous - Force Persude on Kashyyk docking official

Revan: "No docking fee will be necessary."

Port Official: "No docking fee will be necessary."

Canderous: "*whisper* I am amazed on how many people that works on! The whole galaxy must be full of weak minded fools."

              Carth in the Sith Academy:

Sith Guard: *To Revan* "You won't cause us trouble."

Carth: "Not as much trouble as our *master* will cause."

              Sith Guard: "What was that!"

              Uthar Wynn: ...Poison Yuthura...

Carth: "I would love to know what is going on in that tricky little mind of yours."

Uthar Wynn: "The winner shall be taken to the tomb of Naga Sadow. Darth Malak and Revan discovered something of great importance there when they were here, ..."

Carth: "Darth Malak went in there? Interesting, isn't that master?"

Revan: "I have the Sword of Ajunta Pall."

Carth: "What! We should have kept that!" *wielding Bacca's blade, which is stronger anyway*

Revan: "Quiet! Remember where we are!"

              Carth in Dreshdae:

...Sith testing Sith Academy Hopefuls near docking bay...

              Carth: "Oh, this is rich."

Sith: "I wasn't talking to you!"

Lashowe: "Well, well, well. We have some newcomers to the colony; led by a Jedi no less. So, ready to die?"

Carth: "Oh great, some Sith to steal our lunch credits."

              Lashowe: "Smart mouthed newcomers too..."

Revan: ...upset about messing with Sith Hopefuls...

Mekel: "That is the whole point! Personally I think it is wonderful fun. Those fools think that if they stand there long enough they will actually get into the academy! A Sith is not a bantha!"

Carth: "Oh what a sweet guy. He should get the Sith Carnegie Medal Award."

Korriban, Czerka Shop - Only if T3-M4 or HK-47 are in your party.

Czerka Official: "...and Czerka is running low on droids. I must say, that is a great looking droid you've got there"

HK-47: "This unit is not for sale, meatbag."

              T3-M4: *Angry whirring*

Czerka Official: Pretty bloodthirsty, aren't they?

              Tomb of Marka Ragnos

Rogue Assassin Droid: "I have learned to appreciate the value of life."

HK-47: "Query: This is very sad. Are you damaged? Is it repairable?"

Rogue Assassin Droid: "Allow me to give you several of my redundant systems... they may be used on other droids, if you desire. I wish I could reward you with more."

HK-47: "Exclamation: Ooo! No, no, upgrades will be fine!"

Tanis Venn vs. HK-47 & T3-M4 - Revan about to help with droid trap

HK-47: "Commentary: I say we blast the meatbag and save you the trouble, master."

Tanis: "What's with all the droids, lately? My wife get to you, too?"

HK-47: "Negative. I just don't like organic meatbags. Except for the master, of course. Ha ha."

              T3-M4: "Beep! Beeple beep!"

Tanis: "Hey yeah! You've got yourself a 'mech droid, there! Tell it to do it! Please!"

              T3-M4: *mechanical splurch... unflattering sound*

Tanis: "Hey, now... did that droid just spit at me? I just need a little help here."

Revan "grilling" HK-47 in Droid Shop on Tatooine

HK-47: ...talking about restraining bolt and memory access...

              T3-M4: "Beep! Beep! Boop!"

HK-47: "I am not dangerous, you bucket of bolts! Ahem! That is... a restraining bolt is standard procedure, to prevent a droid from wandering off, as you should know."

HK-47: ...selling himself... "Should your needs prove more... practical, I am also skilled in highly personal combat."

Revan: "Why should you be better than an armored battle droid?"

HK-47: "Disclosure: Finesse. Battle droids hold battlefields. I am capable of eliminating a very... specific type of target."

HK-47: ...assassin droids... "...often have unique difficulties with previous owners."

              T3-M4: "Beep beeple-beep boop!"

HK-47: "Objection: My former owners are, indeed alive. Or at least I believe so, not having access to my memory. I therefore make no claim to that designation, prospective buyer. I am a law-abiding droid. Yes, indeed, law-abiding, that's me."

HK-47: "... I have no desire to be subtle."

              T3-M4: *angry beeping*

HK-47: "Qualification: Err... of course I shall be quite pleasant to you, should you purchase me. Please?"

How do I play the .bik movies with an external player?
Since the movies are in the Bink format, look for the free Bink player at RadGameTools and download and install the RADVideo package.

Is there a way to screengrab KotOR's .bik movies? Fraps does not work!

Install RADVideo (see How do I play the .bik movies with an external player? Q&A), and download a screengrabber tool (e.g. use IrfanView's screen capture feature C-Key) and grab the images from the bink movies. BTW: The Fraps screengrabber tool will not work since the bink movies are not played using DirectX or OpenGL, and only those devices are supported by Fraps.

Where do I find a detailed Walkthrough?

If you have more in-depth questions, or simply want to have things spelled out in complete detail, a KotOR walkthrough will probably better help you:

How to externally play KotOR's Music?

If you want to listen to all the wonderful Music and Soundtracks of KotOR, outside the game, in your favorite audio player (like WinAmp), you can do the following on the PC:

              • The game music is in your <KotOR>/streammusic/ folder.

              • The files of interest are all prefixed with mus-.

Note: Several other files in that folder are also music tracks:
                03a, 06, 17b, 19, 22c, 24, 31b, 51a, 54a, 55a, 56a, 57, credits, and evil_ending.

              • Copy all those files into a new temporary folder.

              • Rename all the .wav files to .mp3.

              • Then simply play them in e.g. WinAmp.

Note: For some reason Windows XP Pro and WinAmp will not *get it* that these .wav files are in fact .mp3 files, when they still have a .wav extension.
